Groupon ‘Appalled’ After ‘Ni**er Brown’ Used to Describe Women’s Boots – What will Tiffany Say?

*Outraged customers of Groupon (whose spokesperson is none other than funny woman Tiffany Haddish) are calling for a boycott after discovering two pairs of suede boots were being offered in the colors apricot, black, brown and ni**er-brown, TMZ reports.

The offending shoes have since been removed from the site, though the Daily Beast reports that they were still available for purchase as recently as this month.

Screenshots of the ad started making the rounds on social media Wednesday, showing a listing for Women’s Fringed Suede Moccasin Boots with the color described as “N***er Brown.” The color description also showed up on other boot listings on the site, according to the report.

Shortly afterward, the VP of Global Communications for Groupon issued a statement, saying “This is completely unacceptable and violates our policies — to say nothing of our values,” the statement read.

“When made aware of the issue, we immediately removed the deal — as well as the third-party seller — from our marketplace. Language like this has no place on Groupon, and we’re further strengthening our self-service controls to ensure it doesn’t happen again.”

Still, the damage was done for those offended by the ad, so they took to Twitter to call out the company.

“I can’t believe @Groupon has a woman’s boot called ‘N—-r-Brown’. What type of color exactly is ‘N—-r-Brown’?” user @MrCJamesJr wrote.

“No way @Groupon no way!!!!! ‘N—-r Brown’???? REALLY!! And I’m tired of apologies from these blatantly racist organizations. THROW THE WHOLE BUSINESS AWAY,” user @AkilahTheGreat added.

N. Y. Daily News noted: “Walmart and Amazon made similar headlines last summer after the N-word was featured in the title and description of a weaving net for hair extensions sold on their websites.”

As you know, funny woman, Tiffany Haddish just became a spokesperson for Groupon in January. She’s yet to comment on the n-word controversy.

Meanwhile, we can only wonder what Mo’Nique is thinking about this development and Tiffany right about now. As you know, both comedians have contrasting points of view about how to navigate this business as a black woman.

Mo’Nique has called for a boycott of Netflix over “color and gender bias” in pay for stand-up specials. Tiffany, on the other hand, said she won’t join Mo’s protest because “if you don’t like what they’re offering you, just no longer do business with them.”

We wonder if she’ll join the call to boycott Groupon, or will she give them a pass for the ‘fake’ apology?
