*Tuesday night on a busy street in West Hollywood, “The Doheny Room” was the place to be. A chic, dimly lit nightclub with neon signs and plenty of social media worthy scenery. The doormen were on high alert because there was word that the paparazzi had been tipped off and a crowd was beginning to arrive. This Tuesday night was special because it was the premiere of San Fernando Valley native Amy Correa Bell’s music video for her single “Disguise.” The event was hosted by her husband Ricky Bell, of R&B supergroups New Edition and Bell Biv Devoe, and actress/friend Megan Good, who directed the video.
Media was lined up to report on the stars that would be walking the red carpet. As cars pulled up, the crowd moved in closer to see who was arriving, and cameras began flashing. Songstress and reality star, Amina Buddafly was among the attendees who came offering support. Athletes and media personalities walked the red carpet as well posing for photos, wishing Amy luck, and dishing on their latest projects. Family was also there to support, including Amy’s brother and his wife, voice actor Michelle Ruff who voiced young Tai Lung in “Kung Fu Panda.”
Drinks were flowing, music was going, and once again enormous flashes of camera lights erupted outside. Amy Correa Bell and husband Ricky Bell had arrived. Amy and Ricky’s duet “Gold” released earlier this year, was the couple first collab together. As they approached, I asked them what working with a spouse is like. Amy was happy to say that Ricky “keeps it real and keeps me on my toes”. You could see the joy in Ricky’s eyes as Amy got the well deserved recognition on the red carpet as he often stepped out of her photos to allow her to have her moment on her night.
Next up was actress and director, Megan Good. Now if you’re an 80’s baby like me then the “Eve’s Bayou” and “Cousin Skeeter” actress needs no introduction. While chatting with Megan she informed me that she’d been knowing Amy since the two were in high school and that she was with Amy when Amy met Ricky. When I asked Megan what her favorite part of directing was, she said “not having to wear make-up and be dressed up”. As a former Radio Personality, I could totally relate. When I would be on air, no one would see me so I was often at work with sweatpants on. I feel you Megan, being comfortable while doing what you love is a great feeling.
As the red carpet wrapped up, the party was just beginning. Guests headed upstairs to a dance floor and full bar to watch the music video premiere and dance the night away. Checkout the new fun and upbeat, 80’s vibe single “Disguise” out now by Amy Correa Bell!
