*Boxer Adrien Broner is denying allegations that he groped a woman at Atlanta’s Lenox Square mall, and says the whole thing started because he refused to take a picture with the woman in question.
The former four-division world titleholder was booked into Atlanta’s Fulton County Jail on a misdemeanor sexual battery charge Tuesday morning, according to the facility’s online records. He had been released on $2,000 bail by Tuesday afternoon following a morning court appearance.
After bonding out of jail, Broner told a local news station that he absolutely did not do what he’s been accused of.
“I didn’t touch nobody,” Broner, 28, told Channel 2 Action News upon his release from custody Tuesday. “She wanted to take a picture and I didn’t want to take a picture.”
He also denied the accusations on Instagram.
TMZ posted a video of Broner and others involved in what appeared to be a dispute at the mall that also includes footage of Broner being taken into custody on Monday. He’s scheduled to headline a Showtime-televised card on April 21 against former lightweight world titleholder Omar Figueroa Jr. (27-0-1, 19 KOs), 28, of Weslaco, Texas, in a junior welterweight title elimination fight.
“We’re very concerned about the reported behavior and will continue to monitor the situation, as well as potential repercussions for his scheduled fight,” a Showtime spokesman told ESPN in a statement.
Broner has been arrested and jailed numerous times, including for robbery, assault, gun possession, domestic violence and public intoxication.
