*Dave Chappelle has been campaigning hard for Maryland gubernatorial candidate Ben Jealous, but he wants y’all to know that his backing of the former President & CEO of the NAACP is NOT a political Hollywood ploy.
TMZ caught up with Chappelle Sunday in Forestville, MD, where he was making calls on behalf of Jealous, who’s running for Governor against Republican incumbent Larry Hogan.

Dave tells the outlet that he doesn’t consider what he’s doing to be a “celebrity endorsement,” as he’s a longtime friend of Ben and truly believes he’s qualified for the job.

Meanwhile, Oprah was in Georgia this week campaigning for Governor-hopeful Stacey Abrams, just like Will Ferrell did the week before.
Jealous wrote on Twitter: “@staceyabrams I’m raising your @Oprah door knocking video with one Dave Chappelle helping people carry their groceries while door knocking video!”
His statement was accompanied by a clip of Chappelle delivering groceries to residents.
