Mark Wahlberg at ‘Mile 22 Premiere: No Capes, No Superhero Outfits

*Thursday, (August 9th) Mark Wahlberg joined his cast mates to promote their latest film ‘Mile 22’ for the Westwood premiere at Westwood Village.

Emmy nominated couple Melvin Jackson Jr. and Kelly M. Jenrette were in attendance for the premiere and spoke with our correspondent Jay Styles on their current projects.

“I’m working on a film called ‘All Day and a Night’ with Geoffrey Wright and Ashton Sanders,”

[ Netflix] Jenrette said. “I’ll be flying back on Sunday to continue shooting.”

Composer of the film, Jeff Russo briefly spoke on the process of creating the music for the film.

“I think composers tend to create their own style and sort of go with that,” Russo said. And then occasionally you get composers that are forced out of that comfort zone, ‘Mile 22’ would be a good example of that for myself”.

Actor Sam Medina who plays a villian in the film spoke on working with Indonesian actor and martial artist Iko Uwais, who is being compared to the great Jackie Chan.

“To have watched him…and he is so amazing, but here is what’s amazing….he is such an amazing human being, he’s a great friend and that means more in the world than all of his skills,” Medina said. “And that’s the kind of guy he is”.

Iko Uwais who plays Li Noor, a valuable intelligence asset says that it means a lot to be compared to Jackie Chan.

“It’s such an honor and it means a lot,” Uwais said. I think Jackie Chan is Jackie Chan…he’s a legend and maybe i’m going to [be one].”

Mark Wahlberg who made it his mission to speak with every media outlet on the carpet was clear that he’s not interested on taking a traditional superhero role for DC or Marvel.

“Well not for DC or Marvel, but I am actively developing “Six Billion Dollar Man” for a while, but it’s much more grounded,” Wahlberg said. “And in reality… we’re going to make it next year, but no capes, no superhero outfits just look like a regular guy looking to do extraordinary things.”

‘Mile 22’ hits all theaters on August 17.
