Days After Heather Heyer Killed with Car, Trump Retweets Cartoon Train Mowing Down CNN Reporter

*The White House has released a statement on Donald Trump’s Tuesday morning retweet of a cartoon “Trump Train” mowing down a pedestrian with a CNN logo superimposed on the body.

The tasteless image comes in the wake of violent protests at the “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, where 32-year-old paralegal Heather Heyer was killed when a white supremacist rammed his car into a crowd of counter-protesters.

The retweet with CNN superimposed was quickly deleted, and a White House official stated it was “inadvertently posted and as soon [as] it was noticed it was immediately deleted.”

But criticism over the retweet and its timing just days after Heyer’s death had already taken root.

The original cartoon depicted a Democrat, symbolized by a donkey head, unable to stop the “Trump Train.”
