*David Oyelowo has been tapped to star in a Disney live-action musical written by “Moonlight” playwright Tarell Alvin McCraney.
The project, titled “Cyrano the Moor,” will be a mashup of both William Shakespeare’s revenge story Othello and the classic French play Cyrano de Bergerac, which tells the story of a large-nosed romantic who uses his words to help another man win the affection of the woman he loves.
Oyelowo would produce along with his wife, English actress Jessica Oyelowo. The project is unique in that it will not be based on one of Disney’s classic animations.
Oyelowo worked with the Disney on 2016’s chess drama “Queen of Katwe,” and will next be seen Doug Liman’s sci-fi thriller “Chaos Walking” and the Blumhouse production “Only You.”
McCraney, who won an Oscar for his adaptation of “Moonlight,” recently opened his new play Head of Passes at the Mark Taper Forum.
