A Cross-Country Pact Two Black Men in Their 40s Formed As They Fought Prostate Cancer Airs on ‘Auto Trends’

Atlanta, Georgia — September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Prostate cancer impacts Black men at a higher rate than any other group.

According to all of the statistical research, while one out of six men will be diagnosed with this silent disease over their lifespan, unfortunately, the numbers are more alarming for Black men.

In fact, one out of five Black men will be personally jolted by this disease during their lifetime.

In order to shine a headlight on this disease, “Auto Trends with,” will pump the brakes and alter its programming to have a prostate cancer centered-discussion. Although a typical show of this nature is usually guided by medical professionals and seasoned survivors due to the average age of a prostate cancer diagnosis being 67, the co-hosts will take a different approach to connect with this community.

In a ground-breaking radio discussion, this show will be driven by the theme: Am I My Brother’s Keeper? Jeff Fortson, the host and executive producer of “Auto Trends with,” along with Jerry Bembry, a senior writer for ESPN’s The Undefeated, will lead a conversation most men shy away from. The two Black men will share their personal insights, after both were forced to face the disease head-on in their forties. Bembry, whom Fortson unabashedly touts as one of his ‘Guardian Angels,’ formed a cross-country bond with him five years ago, just for the sake of fighting the disease.

During the course of the show, both survivors will tackle everything from how they found themselves in the ‘fight’ to the male ego driven stigmas associated with the disease to fatherless Black men not knowing their medical history.

More importantly, the co-hosts will share why they are pushing back on the public stand taken by the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) controversial and misguided medical guidelines. This independent task force is made up of national medical experts who make recommendations many from the medical community ascribe to, as it relates to when preventive screenings should occur. To our dismay and that of some of their critics, the directives of the UPSTF could cause some men to find themselves in an advanced stage of cancer or, for that matter, possibly encountering death sooner than later.

The Prostate cancer-themed show can be heard on SiriusXM Channel 141 on Friday, September 22 at 12 pm ET. Encore broadcasts will occur on Sunday, September 24 and Monday, September 25 at 8:00 p.m. ET and 1:30 p.m. ET, respectively.

And, for non-satellite subscribers, they can tune into Phoenix’s 1280-AM Saturday, September 23 at 3:15 p.m. ET. An encore broadcast will occur on Saturday, September 30. To hear the shows, listeners outside of Phoenix can access, the KXEG app or the Tunein radio app.
