*Will Smith’s father, Willard Carroll Smith Sr., has died.
The actor’s ex-wife, Sheree Fletcher, shared the sad news on Monday (Nov. 7) via Instagram.
Alongside a photo of Trey, her son with Smith, alongside Will and Willard Sr., Fletcher wrote: “We’re gonna miss you Daddio! You lived & played by your own rules…you truly were 1 of a kind! You instilled discipline, and a work ethic that has created a legacy in your honor!” the actress captioned the snapshot. “(Pic left to right: Will Smith II; Will Smith III (Trey); Will Smith I (Daddio!) #RIPDaddio#donttellmetheresnothingyoucantdo#WillSMITH1.”
Will has yet to publicly comment about the passing.
The actor has said that his father inspired him to be involved in his children’s lives.
“I look at my father and how he was able to keep four kids fed and clothed and still managed to find time to spend with us,” Will said.
Smith is also dad of son Jaden Smith, 18, and daughter Willow Smith, 16, with wife Jada Pinkett Smith. The couple have been married since 1997.
