Wendy Williams Says Roland Martin Educated Her On Race

*Wendy Williams has invited Roland Martin to her talk show after he blasted the delusional 51-year-old last week over her comments about Jesse Williams and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Many were offended by her comments, which addressed the petition currently circulating about firing Jesse from Grey’s Anatomy. She shared that she sees both sides of the story and referenced his 2016 BET Awards speech. She said:

“I must say to you, he was on BET. His speech was very poignant. On the other hand, I would be really offended if there was a school that was known as a historically white college. We have historically Black colleges. What if there was the National Organization for White People, only? There’s the NAACP.”

When her studio audience sat in silence, she added, laughing:

“Look, everybody’s quiet. You’re leaving me out here to dry by myself? One wrong word — I’m choosing my words carefully, but what I am saying is racism s**ks and we can all do better in our household, educating ourselves and teaching our children to make it better.”

Revisiting the topic of HBCUs, she said:

“National speeches like this will always rub people the wrong way just like white people will be offended because Spelman College is a historically Black college for women. You might feel funny about that. I know I’d feel funny, like I just told you. If there was a white college or whatever.”

The talk show host got dragged by social media, and Wendy’s former employee when she was on the radio, Charlamagne Tha God, even roasted her during a broadcast of “The Breakfast Club,” saying:

“I don’t know when Wendy Williams got to the point that she has become that disconnected from Black people that she doesn’t think there’s a need for HBCUs and Black organizations,” he said. “And, she’s 51 years old! If anybody should understand the need for Black organizations and colleges, it’s her! She was born in ’64. The Civil Rights Act ended segregation that year. She damn near lived through the whole era!”

Roland Martin compared Wendy to Republican political commentator, Stacey Dash. Educating Wendy, he asks: “Do you realize that the first president of the NAACP was white?”

He added: “If you actually bothered to read something, you would realize that.”

Williams said on her show Monday that she has been “educated” by Roland over the weekend, following his blunt criticism. The two “had a very interesting conversation on the telephone regarding race,” and the TVOne news commentator will appear on Thursday’s episode of Wendy’s talk show “to have open dialogue” about the issue.

“He’s educated me quite a bit and I hope you can do the same for all of us and we can begin to heal and stop,” she said.

Wendy responded to Roland’s comments and further explained what she meant initially. See the clip below:
