Tyler Perry Upgrades Like a Boss; Takes a Hit with Buckhead Mansion Sale (Report)

Tyler Perry

*Tyler Perry has moved on from his Buckhead Atlanta mansion, but he definitely didn’t downsize. In an interview with “E! News,” the move mogul revealed that he has purchased a massive estate outside of the city.

“It’s the same distance to the studio as my old house, but now I can have horses and pigs and organic vegetables,” Perry told correspondent Marc Malkin. Check out the clip below.

Perry’s previous 17-acre compound sold last month for a record-breaking $17.5 million. The 35,000 square feet mansion boasts a hobby house, a guardhouse and a caretaker suite on the property — for a total of seven bedrooms, nine full bathrooms and five half-baths.

The estate also has a resort-like swimming pool and waterfall, a tennis court, formal and informal gardens, fountains, lawns and a multi-level parking garage are also on the grounds.

The house came to market last year for $25 million and sold  in late April. Despite it reportedly being the most ever paid for a residential home in Atlanta, Perry lost millions on the sale.

A well-connected real estate source tells SandraRose.com that Perry poured $15 million into home improvements after purchasing the house for $9 million in 2005. He originally listed the house for $25 million in June of last year. He finally settled on $17.5M in cash from an unknown buyer.

According to the real estate insider:

“Perry might be strapped for cash because his house originally listed for 25 million and he put 15 million in it for improvements, thus he took a $6.5 million loss on the property.”
