The “Empire” star has signed on to topline the upcoming film drama “Rogue,” which is inspired by the true events surrounding one of the largest manhunts in American history, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Written and to be directed by Mark F. Kindred, “Rogue” follows an ex-cop gone rogue (Howard) who wages war on the institutional forces that wronged him, resulting in a massive manhunt.

Mandalay Pictures and Jason Michael Berman (“The Birth of a Nation”) are producing with Green Brothers’ Reinaldo Marcus Green, and Matthew Mouat.

Howard currently stars as Lucious Lyon on Fox’s hit series “Empire.” Season three returns on Sept. 21, and Howard says, more of the turbulent history between Lucious and ex-wife Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) will be dramatized.

“Lucious has to deal with whether Cookie is ever going to take him back,” Howard told Forbes magazine for its latest issue. “If she doesn’t, all hell will break loose.”

The 47-year-old actor became a father for the fifth time in August (to son Hero) and now “has two children younger than his oldest grandkid,” as Forbes puts it.

“You give your child two gifts,” he told the magazine for it’s latest issue. “The first is the gift of life, the second is a name. The second gift lasts longer than the first, so you need to give a child a name he needs to live up to.”

Howard also told Forbes that he is heavily into numerology:

He puts his faith in the almighty power of 9. “The Pythagoreans believed there was no number greater than 9,” he explains.

Will “Empire” see that many seasons? “I’m sure if they’re making enough money off this show,” he says, counting his blessings, “we’ll make it to Empire 12.”
