*Someone has finally gotten hold of Shirley Caesar to get her take on the #UNameItChallenge, which samples one of her live performances of “Hold My Mule” and has supplanted the #MannequinChallenge as the hottest thing on social media.
“Beans, greens, potatoes, tomatoes, lamb, rams, hogs, dogs, chicken, turkeys, rabbit, you name it!” Caesar rattles off in the song, referring to how God had blessed the harvest of a farmer named “Shouting John.”
The Internet, however, remixed the beat and threw it under various dance routines to celebrate what everyone’s grandma is about to cook for Thanksgiving next week.
The hashtag #UNameItChallenge was born.
“I was out in the middle of the ocean and one of the members of the church showed it to me,” Caesar said of her first time hearing about the phenomenon, during a phone interview on The Willie Moore Jr. Show.
“I was so shocked to see them dancing and boogeying,” she said, referring to the myriad of videos that have sprung up online. “The Lord is so good to me.”
The singer also said she was baffled as to why the song caught on now when “I’ve been doing it for years.”
