*Queen Latifah and her “Set It Off” co-star Jada Pinkett Smith are re-teaming for the lead roles in the Universal Pictures comedy “Girl Trip.”

According to TheWrap, both ladies are in final negotiations to join Regina Hall in the project. Malcolm Lee (“The Best Man Holiday,” “Barbershop 3”) will direct.

The story revolves around four friends who embark on a trip to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival. The group rekindle their friendship, get wild on the dance floor (and a bit tipsy), find romance and even get into a brawl.

While Latifah and Pinkett Smith have been working together as producers on films like “Secret Life” and “Dear Mama” (also, Jada executive produced “The Queen Latifah Show”), “Girl Trip” marks the first time the pair have appeared on screen together since F. Gary Gray’s “Set it Off” in 1996.

Will Packer (“Ride Along,” “No Good Deed”) will produce through his Will Packer Productions banner and James Lopez will executive produce.

Kenya Barris, creator of the ABC comedy “Black-ish,” co-wrote the screenplay with Tracy Oliver.
