*Poetry has existed since words were first discovered to have beauty, as well as meaning.  This discovery of words dual existence has fueled the imaginations of countless men and women who, upon the utterance of that beauty, brought forth emotion that transformed them into poets.  This blending of word and meaning pushes poets to the center stage to share intellect and art in the form of meaning.

Emerging from the crowd, the poets stood, illuminated by spotlights, and began their rhythmic speech that opened season 6 of TV One’s “Lexus Verses and Flow.”  The intro poem was about being different.  It blended the talents and looks of a slew of pets from across the diaspora, all speaking the same poem, but expressing themselves in their own unique styles.  This blending of voices and deeply meaningful words set the stage for the opening of the hit poetry showcase.

“I am honored to be the host of this show,” said Dondré T. Whitfield, best known for his starring role on All My Children and OWN’s ‘Queen Sugar’ during his opening monologue, “It is poetry with a purpose.”

“Verses and Flow” is the longest running television or cable show to feature poetry as its central theme.  Setting this reality show apart from its competition, is the fact that it has the potential to educate as well as inform.  Similar to other shows of it caliber, “Verses and Flow” employs a full band to support its performers that sing and dance between poets.  The result is a wholesome, ‘soul food’ style café blended with music festival vibe.

With artists like Joe, and Lloyd performing leading the way for new and up and coming artists such as Lion Babe and Dreezy, this new season of Verses and Flow should prove to be a serious challenger for Emmy considerations.
