Why Lester Holt Nearly Missed His ‘Nightly News’ Call Time on Tuesday

*Viewers of “NBC Nightly News” on Tuesday saw Lester Holt in his usual chair, but followers of the veteran anchor on Twitter had a much deeper appreciation for his presence – because it almost didn’t happen.

“This just gave me a panic attack,” joked MSNBC host Chris Hayes, who was among Holt’s 327,000 Twitter followers tracking his last-minute dash by plane, car and subway under the hashtag “Race to 30 Rock.”

Holt’s unintended travel adventure began in Boston around 4:30 p.m. ET. “Just over 2 hours til @NBCNightlyNews and I’m still stuck on ground in Boston. Mission impossible? #WeatherDelays #RaceTo30Rock,” he tweeted, along with a photo taken through a rainy aircraft window.

Holt’s final message came just 10 minutes before airtime: “Now THAT was an adventure. See you shortly for @NBCNightlyNews.”
