*So much for David Alan Grier becoming the new Colonel Sanders.
TheWrap reports that Kentucky Fried Chicken has shut down talk of “The Carmichael Show” star assuming the role. Commenting on the situation, Kevin Hochman, a KFC executive, confirmed to the New York Daily News that there “is no new Colonel Sanders,” adding, “We are very excited to learn that Mr. Grier is such a big fan of KFC and The Colonel, We’re a big fan of him as well. We hope to continue the conversation with him over a $5 Fill Up.”
Hochman’s comments come after Grier went on social media to break the news of him being the new Colonel Sanders.
“Breaking News: David Alan Grier has been cast as the first African American Colonel Sanders in the new KFC ad campaign,” Grier tweeted on Thursday (Mar. 3).
If KFC recruited Grier, he would’ve been the latest funnyman to play Colonel Sanders, joining “Saturday Night Live” veterans Darrell Hammond and Norm Macdonald, as well as Jim Gaffigan, who assumed the role in early February.
