*After a lonnnnng winter break, “Empire” returns on Wednesday for the second half of its second season, and co-star Jussie Smollett says more attention will be focused on the Lyons and their “broken” relationships.
“We’re really concentrating on the family this time around,” said Smollett. “And in the first part of the second season, really, we kind of had to breakup to show those broken pieces that needed to be put back together. What better way to show that than to show Cookie and Jamal having problems because they were the perfect team.”
“We’re going to see the effects of a broken family when the mother is away in prison for 17 years,” Smollett continued. “What does that do to her family? When the father is disconnected from his sons and building his own empire, what does that do? So, we’re very broken and now it’s time for Lucious and Cookie to come together and fix it.”
