*While Super Bowl fans are waiting for the big game to kickoff at 6:30 on CBS, sportscaster James Brown is hoping they’ll tune in early – four and a half hours early, to be exact – to take in “The Super Bowl Today” pregame show from 2 to 6 p.m.

“It’s only 4 hours as opposed to the 7 hours,” Brown told TV critics last month at the TCA Winter Press tour in Pasadena. “Our aim, very simply, is to set the table for the lead announce team that will be calling the game. We are fully mindful that an event of this size brings legions of casual viewers to the set to watch the game, as well as, believe it or not, a sizable number of first time viewers who are watching a big event.

“So we will execute a pregame show that is exciting, that is interesting, and informative, mindful that we’ve got that kind of mix. And as we build towards the game time, again, the best in the business, Jim Nantz and Phil Simms and Tracy Wolfson, will zero in on what’s going to take place.”

Filling Sunday’s 6 to 6:30 p.m. gap between the pregame show and kickoff is “Super Bowl on CBS Kickoff Show,” which will feature musical performances, the national anthem, team introductions and a tribute to past Super Bowl MVPs.
