Family’s Annual Christmas Light Show Features Tribute To Prince

*A Park Ridge, Illinois (in the Chicago area)  family has become known for their elaborate Christmas light display, and they are back this year with a tribute to the late-great Prince.

The Grant-Grusecki home at Engel Boulevard and Belle Plaine Avenue boasts “thousands of lights, synchronized to music.” The light shows can be seen from 5 to 8:55 p.m., Sundays through Thursdays, and from 5 to 9:55 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, reports the Chicago Tribune.

The family members say they spent the last 12 months building the display, and they’re once again accepting donations from spectators. Proceeds will go to the Salute Veterans Fund and Misericordia Home, said Tina and Tom Grusecki. Their goal is to raise $25,000.

Prince christmas lightsThe light show features “Holly Jolly Christmas,” “All Alone on Christmas,” from the “Home Alone 2” movie, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s “Carol of the Bells,” and a salute to U.S. veterans and the military. There Prince tribute is a medley of songs and lots of a purple lights.

“We start planning this in February and we started getting into the programming and songs in May when he had just passed away,” Tina Grusecki said. “I thought, ‘I want to do a Prince tribute.’ ”

Passersby can hear the music from the light show inside their cars by tuning their radios to 98.1 FM. This is the third year for the family’s Christmas display. Last year, Tina Grusecki explained that their annual light-show display aims to make the holidays memorable for their youngest son.

In related news, Prince, who died eight months ago, received only one Grammy mention for his final recording when the nominations were announced this week. The nod is in an engineering category, USA Today reports.

“HitNRun Phase Two” was nominated for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. If it wins, the mastering engineers behind the project will take home trophies.

Prince won nine Grammy’s over the course of his career.
