*“Empire” is coming back for a third season.
Fox Co-Chairman and CEO Dana Walden gave the official announcement Friday morning at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour in Pasadena, Calif.
“Every week we’re blown away by the massive audience it continues to draw,” said Walden. “It was the only top ten series on all of television to grow year over year. The show rolls up to a pretty amazing 22 million viewers across platforms. That’s a bigger audience than what “House” and “Grey’s Anatomy” were pulling over a decade ago.”
During the Q&A that followed, the Fox execs were asked to comment on criticism that “Empire’s” second season had fallen off creatively.
“If that show is off creatively, we would like all of our shows to be off creatively,” said FOX Co-Chairman and CEO Gary Newman. “It’s the number one show in broadcast, cuming up to a 7.4 rating in the Live 7. So the audience, I don’t think, shares the feeling that maybe some of the critics have had about the storytelling.”
Below, Newman says he knows the story arcs for the remaining eight episodes of Season 2 and assures us that creatively, the show is in “a good spot”:
The 8-episode second half of “Empire’s” second season returns on March 30.
