*Whoah! Here’s one that’s gonna have a few heads spinning. Maybe.
The brother Medgar Evers, the murdered civil rights icon, Charles Evers, is endorsing of all people Donald Trump, according to the Jackson Clarion Ledger.
“I believe in him first of all because he’s a businessman,” Evers told the Clarion-Ledger. “I think jobs are badly needed in Mississippi.”
Charles Evers brother, Medgar was assassinated in front of his Jackson home in 1963 by Byron De La Beckwith, a member of the White Citizens’ Council, a group formed in 1954 to resist integration of schools and civil rights activity.
Charles Evers, 93, himself also has a storied history in civil rights. Like his slain brother, he was also a field secretary in Mississippi for the NAACP as well as first black mayor in Mississippi post-Reconstruction. On the political side, Evers has been a Republican since 1980 when he endorsed Ronald Reagan for president.

When the paper asked him about Trump’s controversial remarks regarding immigration and an incident Tuesday in which 30 black students were reported to have been removed from the candidate’s rally in Valdosta, Georgia, Evers was rather interesting.
“I haven’t seen any proof of [Trump] being a racist. All of us have some racism in us. Even me.”
It seems that all the proof Evers needs that Trump is not a bad guy that the front-running Republican candidate didn’t endorse a recent, racist proclamation by Gov. Phil Bryant declaring April “Confederate Heritage Month.”
Evers is hoping to meet his new hero in person during a Monday rally in Madison, Miss.
If he has the chance to speak with Trump, Evers wants to get him to bring a catfish processing plant to Mississippi.
“Our catfish is shipped to China and brought back for us to buy. Put a catfish farm here.” A website for The Catfish Institute, based in Jackson, lists more than half a dozen U.S.-certified catfish processors in the state.
Mississippi’s GOP presidential primary is next Tuesday.
