*After their YouTube cover of Beyonce’s “Pretty Hurts” went viral in December 2013, Atlanta-based alt-pop/R&B duo Chloe x Halle (ages 17 and 16, respectively) were signed to Bey’s Parkwood Entertainment record label for a reported $1 million.
Today (April 29) the Bailey sisters release their first project – a five-song EP titled “Sugar Symphony,” which features contributions from Hit-Boy (Drake, Jay Z) and is led by the self-produced and -written single “Drop.”
“After Bey heard it,” Halle told Billboard, “she said: ‘Girls, I’m so proud of you! This is exactly what I wanted: for you to keep being you.’ ”

The siblings, who are also featured on Michelle Obama’s charity single, “This Is for My Girls,” appear in a “Lemonade” shot with Amandla Stenberg, Zendaya, French duo Ibeyi and the mothers of Mike Brown, Trayvon Martin, Oscar Grant and Eric Garner, all wearing fancy, antebellum-era clothing.
“Seeing all of the incredible women around us, it was just so beautiful,” says Chloe. “We were dressed as queens; we were showing how powerful we can be. That was Bey’s message: Strong women are great, but we’re greater when we’re together.”
