OUR ROOTS Cartoons – Black History’s Info-tainment

our roots - tippu tib & matthew henson

*This week OUR ROOTS rounds up Black History Month celebrations all around the US and the Obamas’ last in the White House.

To top it all, 106-year-old Virginia McLaurin had her dream of visiting the White House fulfilled by also meeting President Obama and Michelle for Black History Month.

Ms McLaurin was so happy to have lived to see a black president of the United States.

I have featured on EURweb Black history achievers at the start of February and it gives me great pleasure to feature two more Black heroes to help wrap up celebrations –  TippuTib, a powerful African trader and ruler and Matthew Henson, an African American, who was first Black man anywhere in the world,  to reach the North Pole.

Many years back, when I first created this educational OUR ROOTS Black history cartoon feature, I was asked if I would be able to get enough people and information to research about, to sustain the concept. I explained that from the beginning of the Black race, history had been made, history is being made and history is in the making. I salute great Black men and women past and present and future who have from all works of life made history in various ways and many will continue to do so. The Obamas….We thank you for being dignified for the past eight years.
