*Melissa Harris-Perry has become the latest celebrity to be in the cross-hairs of the IRS.
According to a report in the Winston Salem-Journal, the MSNBC personality and her husband James Perry owe $70,000 in delinquent taxes.
In addition to filing the notice on April 6, the IRS fled a lien on the Perrys.
The report noted that Harris-Perry said she was aware of her debt, but not the tax lien. On Wednesday (April 15), the couple paid $21,721 of Harris-Perry’s debt. The remaining $43,581 of the debt covers a tax period that ended on December 31, 2013.
“We were aware that we would continue to need to work to pay off the 2013 debt,” Harris-Perry told the Salem-Journal, which mentioned that her and her husband “ended up having to go at a slower pace due to several personal crises” despite their efforts.
A professor at Tulane University, Harris-Perry is best known for covering stories involving justice and minority rights as host of her self-titled show, which airs from 10 a.m. to noon ET weekends on MSNBC.
