*An 18-year-old Texas Southern University freshman is dead and another person is wounded after shots were fired at an off-campus apartment – one of two school shooting to take place on Friday.
Houston police say two suspects are in custody and they are looking for a third person, according to Houston’s ABC13.
The victims were shot in the 3500 block of Blodgett Street near Canfield around 11:30 a.m. The shooting happened at the Tierwester Oaks section of the University Courtyard Apartment Complex, which is owned by TSU and is on campus property.
The school, with about 9,700 students, was placed on lockdown after the shooting and all classes were canceled.
Friday’s shooting marks the third on TSU’s campus in the past two months, and the second at this apartment complex.
Earlier this week, one person was injured while on the “Tiger Walk.” The suspect, identified is Darios Tramain Crayton Scott, 19, is still at large.
On August 27, a man and woman were both injured when a man opened fire in the parking lot of the same apartment complex as Friday’s shooting. Darrius Nichols, 20, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in that case.
The incident came several hours after an 18-year-old student opened fire with a handgun on the campus of Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff early Friday, killing one person and wounding three.
Both shootings come as President Obama lands in Roseburg, Ore., the site of last week’s deadly shootings at Umpqua Community College. He was met with outside of Roseburg Regional Airport by protesters angry over his call for tighter gun restrictions.
The White House said Obama’s visit is focused on bringing words of comfort and sympathy to grieving families, not gun laws.
