*As reported earlier, a judge on Thursday denied Suge Knight’s request to reduce his bail from $10 million to $5 million after he pleaded not guilty to all counts in his murder and attempted murder cases.
The $10 million is just a drop in the bucket for boxer Floyd Mayweather, who is said to be ponying up the dough to get Suge out of jail. However, TMZ claims that Mayweather’s camp did not offer the former Death Row CEO bail money, and the former friends have been out of contact for years.
After Thursday’s hearing, where a July 7th trial date was set, Knight’s attorney told the NY Daily News that Mayweather plans on bailing his client out after his fight against Manny Pacquiao Saturday night.
“My understanding is that Suge is going to be bailed out this coming week,” lawyer Matthew Fletcher told the Daily News. “We think Mr. Mayweather is going to win the championship and then come champion the day again,” he said. “They’re good friends, and there’s no reason he shouldn’t. And we believe that will happen.”
However, a source in the fighter’s camp told TMZ.com on Thursday that no cash was coming Suge’s way. The Mayweather insider said that while Knight and the champion were once tight, they fell out of contact several years ago.
Suge is accused of running over and killing Terry Carter and injuring actor, Cle Bone Sloan while in the parking lot of Tam’s Burgers in Compton, CA. He faces up to life in prison if convicted.
