The 19th Annual Urbanworld Film Festival is saw us firmly planted in position near the red carpet in search of quotes and conversation with some of the hottest names in show business: industry veterans from yesteryear and up-and-coming independent filmmakers who brought their wares to this prestigious affair for all the world to view and applaud.

Founded by Stacey Spikes in 1997, the Urbanworld Film Festivals of the past have featured works and premieres that have gone on to international critical acclaim, such as Ava Duvernay’s “Selma” and Terrence Winter’s “Boardwalk Empire.”
This year, superstar actor and singer Tyrese Gibson served as festival ambassador and graciously made himself available to the amassed press corp.

The directorial team of Coodie Simmons and Chike Ozah’s Muhammad Ali biopic “The People’s Champ” opened the festival while A Ballerina’s Tale, a documentary about the historic career of Misty Copeland, closed the festival.
