*Hands down, “The Running Man” wins as the 2025 Best Film. Think “I’m as mad as hell and I’m not gonna take this anymore” (words of Peter Finch in “Network”), “Let them eat cake” (Marie Antoinette), the Republican Shutdown, DEI, ICE, Affordable Care Act, and the inept Emperor Nero who played the fiddle while Rome burned, and most people would be incensed at the thought of such.
“The Running Man” is a high-octane action thriller with powerful performances. The movie effectively highlights factors that reflect our present dystopian reality. America’s jealous and callous leader would rather see people starve than pass a law extending health benefits because it carries Barack Obama’s name. Ironically, one of the streets in “The Running Man” bears Obama’s name.

*Health care has always been a sore topic in the United States. In “John Q,” Denzel Washington takes a hospital emergency room hostage in a last-ditch attempt to save his child.
In “The Running Man,” working-class Ben Killian (Glen Powell) is desperate to save his sick daughter. He is convinced by the producer (Josh Brolin) of television’s top-rated show, “The Running Man,” to become a contestant.
The contestants in this deadly competition are known as Runners. They must survive 30 days while being hunted by professional assassins, with every move broadcast to a bloodthirsty public and each day bringing a greater cash reward.
Ben’s defiance, instincts, and grit turn him into an unexpected fan favorite—and a threat to the entire system. As ratings skyrocket, so does the danger, and Ben must outwit not just the Hunters but a nation addicted to watching him fall.

Directed by Edgar Wright, the film is based on Stephen King’s novel. Arnold Schwarzenegger starred in the 1982 film adaptation. Schwarzenegger says the only movie of his he wanted “redone’ was “The Running Man.” This film upped the ante, Arnold enthused: “The movie is fantastic, and the action is unbelievable.”
Also starring in “Running Man” are William H. Macy, Lee Pace, Emilia Jones, Michael Cera, Daniel Ezra, and Jayme Lawson.
