*Peacock has officially renewed its hit comedy series “The ’Burbs” for a second season, continuing the suburban mystery story led by Keke Palmer. The renewal comes after a strong debut run that quickly established the show as one of the platform’s standout scripted successes.
“We’re so thrilled that audiences loved season one of ‘The ’Burbs,’ and are going to get to spend more time in Hinkley Hills with Keke and the rest of this incredible cast,” said Lisa Katz, President, Scripted Content, NBC & Peacock, per the news release. “A huge congratulations to all of the writers, producers and crew who updated the beloved original film and made something funny, warm and highly contemporary.”
Since launching on February 8, the series has generated more than 1.7 billion viewing minutes on the platform, reflecting strong, sustained engagement across its first weeks of release. The performance helped solidify its position as one of Peacock’s most-watched scripted originals.
The series also ranked among Nielsen’s top 10 streaming original seasons for four consecutive weeks, covering the weeks of February 2, 9, 16, and 23, underscoring its consistent weekly audience draw during its early run.
On the platform itself, “The ’Burbs” has become the #1 Peacock scripted season of all time in overall reach across its first 50 days, marking a major milestone for the streamer’s original programming strategy.
Internationally, the series has expanded its footprint significantly, with licensing deals in more than 100 territories worldwide, strengthening its position as a global streaming title rather than a domestic hit alone.
Critical reception has also contributed to its momentum. The New York Times described “The ’Burbs” as “funny and ultimately heartwarming.” Variety praised the series as “brilliantly written” and called it “an entertaining blend of genres that keeps viewers guessing until the very end.”

Inspired by the 1989 cult film “The Burbs,” which starred Tom Hanks, Carrie Fisher, Bruce Dern, Rick Ducommun, and Corey Feldman, the series reimagines suburban paranoia for a modern setting. The original film followed neighbors who become convinced that a mysterious new family may be hiding deadly secrets, ultimately becoming a box office hit after debuting at number one and grossing over $49 million worldwide on an $18 million budget.
The modern adaptation is created by Celeste Hughey, with executive production from Rachel Shukert and Seth MacFarlane, alongside a broader producing team that includes Imagine Entertainment and Fuzzy Door. Set in present-day suburbia, the series follows a couple whose move to a quiet cul-de-sac unravels when new neighbors arrive and long-buried secrets begin to surface, turning their neighborhood upside down.
