*About a year ago, on February 10, 2025, during Black History Month, the Ebell Theater in Los Angeles acknowledged the co-founder and publisher of Soul Magazine with a luncheon billed “In Conversation with Regina Jones.”
Co-founded with her late husband, Ken Jones, after the 1965 Watts riot, Soul Magazine (now defunct) started as a small, local Los Angeles-based publication for Black entertainment that soon after, blossomed into an international phenomenon.
In her book, Pieces of My Life, Regina candidly chronicles her life in poetry with brief interludes of details about her parents and the challenging struggles of being married to Ken Jones, who was a popular newscaster.
The book concludes with a brief biography of Regina growing up in Los Angeles and ultimately being in the limelight with luminaries such as Motown stars like Stevie Wonder, The Jacksons, and Diana Ross, as well as the stable line-up of SOLAR Records, among other popular singers and actors of the day.
This amazing woman—raising a family as a teen mom; dealing with racism and sexism—managed to run a popular newspaper against all odds. She also worked with women and children at Crystal Stairs, a non-profit child care and development organization in South Los Angeles.

Now, a year later, Regina Jones, the subject of a documentary called “Who in the Hell is Regina Jones?” that was in theaters last year, will now be broadcast on TV.
Regina says, “Weigel Broadcasting will debut the documentary on broadcast television across its Dabl, Start TV, and Story Television networks on Monday, February 16th at 8pm EST.” She added, “This first-of-its-kind multi-network entertainment event will premiere as a ‘roadblock’ presentation during Black History Month, with an encore airing immediately following at 10pm EST across all three Weigel Broadcasting networks, making it widely available to viewers on broadcast, satellite, cable, and streaming outlets.”
Also nominated for NAACP Image Award
In addition to the TV broadcast, Regina has been nominated for the 2026 NAACP Image Award (airing February 28th) for Outstanding Documentary (Film). Regina, who was once a publicist for the NAACP Image Awards from 1987 to 2001, says, “It’s now come full circle, and I am so grateful.”
