*The Miss Côte d’Ivoire 2025 beauty pageant has implemented a groundbreaking rule prohibiting the use of weaves, wigs, and hair extensions, marking a historic first in the world of pageantry. This bold move is aimed at celebrating natural African beauty and authenticity, ensuring that contestants present themselves with their natural hair, whether long, short, braided, or shaved.
According to New Zimbabwe, the competition’s organizing committee introduced this requirement to encourage self-acceptance and redefine beauty standards by prioritizing natural hairstyles. Victor Yapobi, president of the organizing committee, pointed out that previous Miss Universe contestants have confidently showcased their short, natural hair on an international stage. Inspired by such examples, Côte d’Ivoire has become the first country to enforce this rule at a national level.
Another key influence behind the decision was Marlene Kouassi, who won Miss Côte d’Ivoire 2022 while wearing her hair short. Her victory served as a powerful representation of confidence and natural beauty, reinforcing the idea that embracing one’s authentic self can lead to success in the pageant world.
While some have praised the initiative, others have criticized it as restrictive, arguing that it limits contestants’ personal expression. The debate highlights a broader discussion about cultural identity and evolving beauty standards.
In addition to the hair requirement, the competition has also adjusted other eligibility criteria. The minimum height requirement has been slightly lowered from 1.68 meters to 1.67 meters, and the age limit has been extended from 25 to 28 years, allowing more women to participate.

The highly anticipated Miss Côte d’Ivoire 2025 crowning ceremony is scheduled to take place on June 26.
