*DC Studios will bring its latest superhero feature, “Supergirl,” to theaters worldwide this summer, starring Milly Alcock in the dual role of Supergirl/Kara Zor-El.
The film is directed by Craig Gillespie from a screenplay by Ana Nogueira and hits North American theaters and IMAX on June 26, 2026, with an international release beginning June 24, 2026.
Alcock shares the screen with Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and Jason Momoa. DC Studios’ Peter Safran and James Gunn produce the film, with executive producers Nigel Gostelow, Chantal Nong Vo, and Lars P. Winther. The creative team also includes director of photography Rob Hardy, production designer Neil Lamont, editor Tatiana S. Riegel, costume designer Anna B. Sheppard, visual effects supervisor Geoffrey Baumann, and composer Ramin Djawadi.
The story is adapted from Tom King’s 2022 comic series “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” illustrated by Bilquis Evely. Per Deadline, in the comic, Supergirl and the young alien Knolle pursue Krem of the Yellow Hill after he kills Knolle’s father.

According to THR, development of the feature has spanned several years, beginning in 2018. The project faced pandemic delays in 2020 and was briefly shelved in 2022 before being retooled in 2023 as part of James Gunn’s revamp of the DC Universe.
Gillespie described the film as “really an anti-hero story. She’s got a lot of demons, a lot of baggage coming into this, which is very different from where Superman is in his life.” Gunn added, “So many times female superheroes are so perfect. She’s not that at all. Like male superheroes have been allowed to be for a while.”
“Supergirl” is produced by Troll Court Entertainment and The Safran Company and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, promising a fresh, complex take on the iconic DC character for audiences worldwide. Watch the teaser trailer above.
