New Charges Filed in John Reilly Shooting Case
*Six months after a lost/confused Black DoorDash driver was shot in Chester, New York, the case is expanding. This past Friday (10-31-25), Selina Nelson-Reilly was indicted on multiple felony charges.
She is the wife of John Reilly III, the town official already facing attempted murder charges. Prosecutors now claim she tried to delete video evidence from the family’s doorbell camera system.
Selina Nelson-Reilly Accused of Tampering With Evidence
Selina is charged with hindering prosecution and 17 counts of tampering with physical evidence. Investigators say she deleted 17 video clips showing events around the time of the shooting.
She also allegedly denied any knowledge of the incident when questioned by police. A later text message reportedly revealed that she had intentionally deleted the footage.

Delivery Driver Shot While Lost in Chester
The shooting occurred on May 2, 2025, around 10 p.m. Alpha Oumar Barry, a DoorDash driver from Middletown, was trying to deliver food when his phone died.
Looking for help, Barry approached the Reilly home in Chester. He rang the doorbell while holding a food bag and asked if the order belonged to them. He was calm and respectful.
Security Footage Contradicts Reilly’s Defense
Ring doorbell footage obtained by the media shows Barry waving and speaking politely. After a short exchange, he returned to his vehicle to make a three-point turn.
That’s when John Reilly came outside with a .45-caliber Glock pistol. He fired three shots at Barry’s car, hitting him in the back as he tried to leave.
Barry Survived the Shooting but Was Seriously Injured
Barry screamed in pain but managed to drive away from the scene. He did not stop until reaching his home, where he eventually sought medical help.
He was hospitalized for several weeks and underwent multiple surgeries. His family says he is still recovering both physically and emotionally.

John Reilly Facing Multiple Felony Charges
Reilly was arrested and indicted in May 2025. His charges include attempted murder, multiple counts of assault, and illegal gun possession.
Although he held a federal firearms license, he did not have a valid New York pistol permit. Police found the Glock used in the shooting and seven additional unregistered handguns in his home.
Community and DoorDash Respond to the Shooting
DoorDash called the incident “devastating” and said no one should fear for their life while delivering food. The company pledged full cooperation with investigators.
In Chester, two local judges recused themselves due to conflicts. Town officials said they have not heard from Reilly since his arrest. The case continues to make headlines in local media.
What Happens Next in the Reilly Shooting Case
Selina Nelson-Reilly is due back in court on January 5, 2026. Her charges may increase legal pressure on the defense team.
John Reilly’s trial is expected in 2026. His lawyer argues the shooting was a protective response, but prosecutors describe it as a violent overreaction. The case remains active and closely watched.
Broader Pattern of Doorstep Shootings Raises Concern
This case echoes similar incidents across the U.S. In recent years, people have been shot after approaching the wrong house or driveway.
Cases like the 2023 shooting of Ralph Yarl in Kansas City highlight the dangers of mistaken identity and overreactions with firearms. Reilly’s case adds another example to this troubling trend.
