*Anthony McNary has returned to his west side Indianapolis home after a violent attack left him with a gunshot wound to the neck. The 64-year-old became a target when thieves saw him post a photo of stacked cash on social media, prompting them to invade his Patricia Street residence.
According to FOX 59, two masked assailants wearing tactical gear emblazoned with police markings forced their way into McNary’s dwelling while he slept. The perpetrators had spotted a photograph on his Facebook profile displaying currency and arrived seeking those funds.
“He said, ‘Where’s the money at? Where’s it at? I seen what you posted on Facebook. Where’s the money at?'” said McNary. The image was shared after McNary was labeled “broke” in an online exchange. He posted an archived photograph from his social media memories showing cash that never belonged to him.

McNary attempted repeatedly to clarify the misunderstanding with his assailants. “I kept trying to beat into his head that it was fake. I said it was a prank. It was fake,” said McNary. Rather than departing upon discovering no money existed, the attackers subjected him to pistol-whipping and strangulation before shooting him.
“He just stuck the gun to the back of my head and pulled the trigger. I couldn’t believe it. Over a fake post,” said McNary. The projectile entered the back of his neck and tore through his chest, creating life-threatening injuries that required emergency hospitalization.
Authorities transported McNary to a medical facility in critical condition after the gunmen escaped. “I said to myself, ‘I’m about to die over a fake post.’ That’s what I was saying to myself,” said McNary.
“That wasn’t even called for. He didn’t have to do all that. Once he found out it wasn’t real, he should have just left,” said McNary.
The case remains under active investigation with no suspects in custody.
