*Prescription support stands out as a key feature in Google and Samsung’s upcoming smart glasses, with both single-display and no-display versions expected to accommodate a wide range of prescriptions. The capability is positioned as a major difference compared with some competing devices in the market, CNET reports.
The glasses were previewed at Google I/O in early design form through collaborations with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster. The lineup is part of a broader effort to develop what is currently referred to as Intelligent Eyewear, a name that is not final and will be determined by individual eyewear partners.
Functionally, the devices are designed to work across connected ecosystems. They will deliver notifications and smart widgets from Android phones, offer limited compatibility with iOS devices, and integrate with WearOS smartwatches for extended functionality.

Hardware across the lineup includes cameras, microphones, and speakers, aligning them with existing smart glasses products. The system will be split between audio-focused models launching first and later display-enabled versions that add visual output.
Shahram Izadi, Google’s head of XR, said the products do not yet have official names and that branding will be handled by partner eyewear companies. He also confirmed a fall release window, with additional details expected at Samsung’s July Unpacked event.
Together, the preview signals an early-stage push by Google and Samsung into a more integrated smart eyewear category combining fashion partnerships and connected device features.
