*Elon Musk recently showcased the capabilities of AI software Grok Imagine by resharing a fan-created video featuring himself and the late rapper Tupac Shakur.
The billionaire tech giant posted a six-second clip in which 2Pac lights Musk’s cigarette while he smokes and plays video games. According to Complex, Musk shared other videos made by fans using Grok Imagine, a tool that turns text prompts into realistic images and short videos. AI-generated videos featuring Tupac have become increasingly common. Earlier this month, an AI video of Tupac casually shopping at Target went viral, prompting debate about the ethics and realism of digitally recreating deceased celebrities.
Social media users expressed concern over the clips, with one noting, “I know some auntie on Facebook fell for this video saying PAC alive…AI is scary man.” Others pointed out legal implications, referencing past disputes involving Tupac’s estate.

In 2024, attorney Howard King, representing Tupac’s estate, issued a cease-and-desist letter to Drake over a song using an AI-generated version of Tupac’s voice. King said the estate was “deeply dismayed and disappointed by your unauthorized use of Tupac’s voice and personality,” calling it a “flagrant violation of Tupac’s publicity and the estate’s legal rights” and “a blatant abuse of the legacy of one of the greatest hip-hop artists of all time.”
Drake’s track, “Taylor Made Freestyle,” also featured AI vocals resembling Snoop Dogg, amassing over a million streams. Snoop Dogg later reacted humorously, saying, “They did what? When? How? Are you sure?”
Musk’s posts highlight both the potential of AI creativity and the ongoing debates surrounding ethical use and legal rights over deceased celebrities’ likenesses.
