*Author/acticist and EURweb contributor Earl Ofari Hutchinson, who – until recently – was also host and moderator of “The Earl Ofari Hutchinson Show,” has leveled serious accusations against the Pacifica Network and KPFK-Los Angeles
Hutchinson alleges that the actions leading to his show’s permanent removal from the airwaves are rooted in racist tactics, policies, and practices. A well-known political analyst and social justice advocate, Hutchinson has dedicated over two decades to his weekly show, which had been a staple for listeners.
His ousting has raised critical questions about the network’s commitment to its stated mission of providing an equal voice for all.
On Thursday, November 14, Hutchinson sent a formal request to the incoming Trump administration as well as the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), calling for the revocation of Pacifica Network’s license.
“I’m totally stunned that KPFK, a station whose alleged mission is to give an equal voice to all, is in violation of its own philosophy and principles,” the show’s Executive Producer, Pedro Báez said, highlighting the contradiction of the station’s actions against its foundational values.
The abrupt removal of Hutchinson’s show was not only surprising but also, according to Hutchinson, a violation of legal standards for notification and due process.
“The removal violated all legal and labor standards of notification, due process appeal, and recourse for correction,” says Hutchinson, “Multiple attempts were made for redress. They were all ignored.”
The incident has ignited discussions regarding labor practices and racial discrimination within the station and the broader Pacifica network, which was established in 1949 as a non-profit community radio network promoting progressive programming.
As Hutchinson prepares to escalate this matter, he has indicated plans to disseminate press notices to Congressional communications watchdog chairpersons, media outlets, and social media platforms, drawing attention to what he terms unfair labor practices and racial discrimination. This situation raises critical concerns about accountability at community stations like KPFK, which has historically aimed to represent diverse voices, often spotlighting marginalized communities through its programming.

Hutchinson’s background as a founding member of the Los Angeles chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists informs his advocacy and commitment to issues of race and civil rights. His work as a political consultant, author, and commentator has significantly impacted public discourse, underscoring the importance of fairness and representation in broadcasting. The fallout from this situation may well serve as a litmus test for Pacifica Network’s adherence to its values, amplifying the calls for equity and justice in media representation.
As this story develops, it highlights the ongoing struggles faced by journalists of color and raises pertinent questions about the future of progressive media in an ever-evolving sociopolitical landscape.
