Cedric the Entertainer Named Grand Marshal of 2026 MLK Parade
*Cedric the Entertainer will serve as the official Grand Marshal of the 2026 MLK Day Parade in Los Angeles. The event is set for Monday, Jan. 19, honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of justice and service, the LA Sentinel is reporting.
The parade will begin at Western Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. It will head west along King, then turn south on Crenshaw Boulevard before ending just past Vernon Avenue near Leimert Park.
Why Cedric the Entertainer Was Chosen to Lead the Parade
Cedric was selected for his long-standing commitment to giving back to the community. Organizers say his work reflects the values of Dr. King—service, compassion, and leadership.
“Our committee selected Cedric ‘The Entertainer’ as this year’s Grand Marshal because of his unwavering commitment to community empowerment,” said Danny J. Bakewell Sr., chairman of Bakewell Media. “Time and time again, Cedric and his family have gone above and beyond in support of our community.”

Cedric’s Support of Brotherhood Crusade and Fire Victims
Cedric has supported groups like the Brotherhood Crusade and runs his own charity, the Kyle Family Foundation. After the January 2025 Eaton fire, he partnered with Fiat to provide vehicles for Altadena families who lost their cars in the disaster.
“Cedric’s concern for others stands as a powerful example of compassion in action,” Bakewell said. “His kindness, humility, and thoughtful use of his platform embody the principles that Dr. King championed—justice, service, and love for humanity.”
Who’s Behind the MLK Parade in Los Angeles?
This year’s parade is being produced by the Los Angeles Sentinel, Brotherhood Crusade, and Bakewell Media. The team also produces California’s largest street festival, Taste of Soul, held every October.
Since its launch, the King Day Parade has grown into one of Los Angeles’ most cherished events. It brings thousands of people together to celebrate unity, diversity, and Dr. King’s legacy of peace and equality.

Cedric the Entertainer’s 30-Year Career in Entertainment
With more than three decades in showbiz, Cedric has earned his place as a household name. He starred in the “Barbershop” films, “Johnson Family Vacation,” and played civil rights leader Ralph Abernathy in Spike Lee’s “Son of the South.”
On television, he’s known for hits like “The Steve Harvey Show,” “The Soul Man,” and “The Neighborhood,” which he also executive produces. His work has earned him six NAACP Image Awards and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Beyond Acting: Cedric’s Book, Barbecue, and Business Ventures
Cedric is also a published author and entrepreneur. His book “Flipping Boxcars” explores family, legacy, and hustle. He co-created AC Barbeque, a premium sauce brand, with fellow actor Anthony Anderson.
He continues to expand his brand while giving back. From the stage to the streets, Cedric remains committed to using his platform for good.
Parade Organizers Praise Cedric’s Example and Legacy
Bakewell Media and the Los Angeles Sentinel say they are proud to have Cedric the Entertainer lead this year’s event. His example, they say, reflects the kind of leadership the community needs today.
“We are deeply honored to have Cedric as our Grand Marshal,” Bakewell said. “He helps us continue this cherished Los Angeles tradition that celebrates Dr. King’s enduring message of equality, peace, and community uplift.”
