*Vanessa Bryant announced on Thursday that Kobe’s charity organization will now honor the memory of the Lakers legend and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna.
In a post shared on her Instagram page, Vanessa said the Mamba Sports Foundation will be renamed to the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation, which aims to support underserved communities and especially youth and young women through sports.
Gianna was known as ‘Mambacita,’ a play on her father’s nickname “The Black Mamba,” and she had a bright future that Kobe envisioned would carry on his basketball legacy.
“Because there is no #24 without #2, we have updated the Mamba Sports Foundation to now be called the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation,” Vanessa wrote on Instagram.

According to the foundation’s website, its goals are “focused on creating a positive impact through sports.” The organization also “aims to develop learning skills, enhancing character traits, and expanding personal values that ultimately empower and inspire self-confidence.”
Kobe and Gianna died in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California along with seven other people while on the way to a basketball tournament on Jan. 26. A public memorial for the victims is set to take place at Staples Center on Feb. 24.
