*Tulsi Gabbard has ignited controversy by accusing former President Barack Obama and top national security officials of orchestrating a “treasonous conspiracy” to falsely claim Russian interference swayed Donald Trump’s 2016 election victory.
As The Guardian reports, Gabbard, the current Director of National Intelligence, alleges that Obama and his team, including John Brennan, James Clapper, John Kerry, Susan Rice, and Andrew McCabe, fabricated intelligence to undermine Trump’s presidency. “The information we are releasing today clearly shows there was a treasonous conspiracy in 2016 committed by officials at the highest level of our government,” Gabbard stated, emphasizing that their actions aimed to “subvert the will of the American people and enact what was essentially a years-long coup.”
Gabbard claims the Obama administration relied on a dubious dossier by British analyst Christopher Steele, which she says they knew was unreliable, to bolster claims of Russian meddling. Her office released documents, including a partially redacted Obama-era intelligence assessment and memos from Clapper’s office, to support her allegations.
One document, dubbed “the Russia Hoax,” asserts that post-election leaks to the Washington Post falsely claimed Russia used “cyber means” to influence the election. It further alleges that an unclassified January 2017 intelligence report, citing “further information” from the Steele dossier, wrongly claimed Russian President Vladimir Putin orchestrated efforts to aid Trump against Hillary Clinton.

Gabbard’s report argues this contradicts earlier findings that Russia lacked the intent or capability to hack the election.
The accusations revive Trump’s long-standing dismissal of the Russia investigation as a “hoax,” amid separate pressures from his supporters to release files related to Jeffrey Epstein’s case.
Gabbard has forwarded her documents to the Justice Department, insisting, “No matter how powerful, every person involved in this conspiracy must be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, to ensure nothing like this ever happens again.
“The American people’s faith and trust in our democratic republic and therefore the future of our nation depends on it,” she added.
Her claims contrast with Robert Mueller’s 2019 report, which confirmed Russia’s “sweeping and systematic” interference but found no evidence of Trump campaign collusion.
