*Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson has filed a lawsuit against producer Ryan Kavanaugh and his streaming platform GenTV, claiming he was never compensated for his work on the upcoming horror film “Skillhouse” and that his name and likeness were used during promotion without proper authorization.
The suit, filed Thursday, accuses the parties of breach of contract, trademark infringement, false advertising, and unfair competition. According to the legal filing, Jackson and his son shot scenes for the movie under the belief that a formal agreement was imminent. However, no finalized contract was ever signed. Despite this, Jackson alleges that GenTV proceeded to market him as both a star and producer of “Skillhouse,” leveraging his reputation to gain traction for the film.
The lawsuit asserts that Kavanaugh and GenTV “planned to steal Jackson’s reputation and goodwill amongst his millions of fans” to elevate their platform and unfairly compete with Jackson’s established entertainment ventures. “Jackson never would have agreed to allow his intellectual property to be used in such a manner,” the suit claims.
Though Jackson joined the project in 2022 with an expectation of creative input and approval rights, the filing states he was ultimately given neither. It further alleges that association with a film he didn’t help shape could “irreparably damage his carefully curated and award-winning reputation.”
A teaser clip released in 2024 featuring Jackson alongside social media influencers Bryce Hall and Hannah Stocking quickly went viral, drawing over 1 million views within an hour. The movie, scheduled to premiere on July 11, follows influencers trapped in a terrifying, gamified reality.
Jackson is seeking at least $5 million in damages for the alleged misuse of his brand and unpaid work.
