*Paramount+ with SHOWTIME released the official trailer for the highly anticipated prequel “Dexter: Original Sin” starring Patrick Gibson.
We reported earlier that “Dexter” star Michael C. Hall is returning to the series to voice the iconic inner monologue in Dexter Morgan’s head. He is also set to headline the previously announced sequel series, “Dexter: Resurrection,” which will pick up where “Dexter: New Blood,” left off.
“Set in 1991 Miami, DEXTER: ORIGINAL SIN follows Dexter (Patrick Gibson) as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness,” per the series description. “With the guidance of his father, Harry (Christian Slater), he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcement’s radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.”

“Dexter” aired on Showtime from 2006 to 2013, with the limited series “Dexter: New Blood” picking up 10 years later, airing one season from 2021 to 2022.
“Dexter: Resurrection” will debut in Summer 2025, picking up “right where we left off,” Hall said, Variety reports, noting that the show could expand into multiple seasons.
“Dexter: Original Sin” premieres Friday, December 13 on streaming and on demand for Paramount+ subscribers with the Paramount+ with SHOWTIME plan, before making its on-air US debut on Sunday, December 15.
“We are thrilled to have the brilliant Michael C. Hall reprise his iconic role as Dexter Morgan in Showtime’s most successful series ever,” said Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global Co-CEO and President/CEO, Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios. “While Dexter: Resurrection will appeal to the tens of millions of longtime fans, Dexter: Original Sin will introduce a whole new generation of viewers into this iconic series by starting from the beginning, which is sure to satisfy existing audiences as well.”
“Dexter” was the #1 Showtime original and since the end of its run, has captured millions of fans and become a cult classic. Over time, it has built a rabid and loyal fan base in the tens of millions. The series has had a recent resurgence, with 1.48 billion viewing minutes across all platforms, per Variety.
