*Sheila E. recently shared that Prince recorded his version of Michael Jackson’s 1987 hit “Bad” before deleting it.
During an interview with Jason Matheson on The Jason Show, the iconic drummer, now 66, dismissed any rumors of jealousy between Prince and Jackson, PEOPLE reports.
“They hung out, we all hung out,” she said before recounting a moment with Prince at Paisley Park where he said, “‘Michael wants me to sing this song with him.’ So he played it for us. He goes, ‘Your butt is mine…’ He said, ‘What?! Your butt is mine?’ And he just walked away, he said, ‘Uh, uh,'” Sheila E. recalled.
She also revealed that she joined Prince to “re-record” the song. “It was so funky, it was so amazing. It was an incredible rendition of what it should’ve been,” she said on The Jason Show. “And then after we recorded it, we’re like, ‘Oh my God, we can’t wait for Michael to hear it.'”
But Prince ultimately “erased the whole thing,” the “A Love Bizarre” singer said. Catch Sheila E. on The Jason Show below.
Meanwhile, we reported earlier that Prince’s estate has refused to approve a Netflix documentary about the late singer due to its nine-hour length, which exceeds the originally agreed-upon six-hour series.
Director Ezra Edelman’s final cut is three hours longer than planned, leading to a dispute with the estate, Page Six reports.
Although Netflix is hopeful for a compromise, Edelman is reportedly unwilling to shorten the film. Emmy winner Ava DuVernay was initially set to direct the project, but Edelman took over four years ago.
Edelman (OJ: Made in America) has hosted screenings for family and friends of the Prince project.
Per Page Six, “the estate’s executors have taken issue with not only the length of the career-spanning doc but also inaccuracies about its famously private subject,” the outlet writes, citing a Puck report.
Edelman needs approval from Prince’s family and those who manage the late singer’s rights before the documentary is publicly released.
