*Music fans looking forward to seeing Michael Jackson’s life story on the big screen will have to wait a little longer.
Media sources at Vibe reveal it will be the Fall of 2025 before Antoine Fuqua’s highly anticipated biopic “Michael” arrives in theaters, months after its initial April 2025 release.
The new premiere date in theaters for the film, Lionsgate announced Nov. 5, will be Oct. 3, 2025.
Starring Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson in the titular role, “Michael” features Nia Long as the late singer’s mother Katherine Jackson and Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson, along with Laura Harrier as Suzanne de Passe, Miles Teller as John Branca, Larenz Tate as Berry Gordy, Kendrick Sampson as Quincy Jones and Kat Graham as Diana Ross.
More than 30 actors are expected to be included in the film as well as a slew of performances to match its lengthy run time, according to Vibe.
“With Jaafar, every look, every note, every dance move is Michael,” “Michael” producer Graham King told Variety. “He embodies Michael in a way that no other actor could.”
“There are elements of drama, intrigue, and emotional states [in the film],” he continued while labeling the feature as “an inside look at the most prolific artist who ever lived.”
“We’ll get into all of it,” King added. “Behind the unrelenting scrutiny and the accusations and the spotlight, he was simply a man — a man with a very complicated life.”
Weighing in on the “Michael” biopic, Fuqua noted the irony of using his background in music videos to bring Jackson’s life journey to the masses.
“The first films of my career were music videos, and I still feel that combining film and music is a deep part of who I am. For me, there is no artist with the power, the charisma, and the sheer musical genius of Michael Jackson,” the “Training Day” filmmaker shared in a statement. “I was influenced to make music videos by watching his work—the first Black artist to play in heavy rotation on MTV. His music and those images are part of my worldview, and the chance to tell his story on the screen alongside his music was irresistible.”
