*Ma$e has no regrets about leaving the rap scene at the height of his career in the late 90s.
The ex-artist retired from the industry in 1999 to pursue ordainment as a minister. During an episode of his It Is What It Is, with co-host Cam’Ron, Ma$e reflected on his departure from Diddy’s Bad Boy label. He also recounted how he managed to evade the difficulties encountered by his fellow artists.
Bad Boy artist Shyne spent nearly nine years in prison for a shooting that Diddy allegedly committed. As Hip Hop DX reports, in 2013, rapper Loon was sentenced to prison on drug charges. We reported earlier that Puff Daddy is currently facing multiple sexual assault lawsuits.
“Everything now that we see playing out was all the things I escaped,” Ma$e said in the clip above before mentioning Shyne, the Loon, Diddy, and late rappers Craig Mack (who died at age 37) and Biggie Smalls (fatally shot at 24).
Ma$e noted that while his decision to quit the music industry “cost me money,” he also called it “destiny.”
“See, that’s why it’s destiny — you asked me the right question, we at the right place,” he said on the podcast. “This is how it’s meant to go, man.”
In related news, we reported earlier that Natania Reuben, the victim of the 1999 nightclub shooting involving Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, Shyne, and Jennifer Lopez, recently addressed the incident amid Puff Daddy’s latest lawsuit.
For years, Reuben has asserted that it was Diddy, not Shyne, who shot her during an altercation between the Diddy and Club New York patron Matthew Allen, resulting in injuries to three individuals, including herself.
As Vibe reports, Lopez was arrested and released, while Diddy was acquitted of all charges. Shyne, however, served an eight-year prison sentence. Diddy later settled civil suits with the victims, paying over $2.3 million.
Over the years, Reuben pointed the finger at Diddy, claiming he pulled the trigger. She recently took to social media to speak out once more.
“I literally have told everyone and never changed what I said. I watched him. I got pow-pow’d in the face. I watched him fire the gun,” Reuben said about Diddy in a video on X (formerly Twitter). “I’ve said it all this time!”
