*Lizzo is done. Through. With something. At least that’s what she is saying. In a heartfelt outpouring on Instagram, the 35-year-old, whose birth name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson, expressed feelings of exhaustion over the negativity she faces.
The Grammy-awarded artist conveyed a sense of frustration at being constantly criticized and ridiculed online and in her personal life, stating: “I’m getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet.”
Lizzo’s passion for her craft comes through as she states her simple desire: “All I want is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it.” Despite this, she indicated feeling unwelcome, confronting “lies being told about me for clout & views…being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look.”
She also lamented the fact that her character is being “picked apart by people who don’t know me and [are] disrespecting my name,” ending her candid post with a defiant “I QUIT βπΎ,” signaling she’s reached her limit with the current state of affairs.
The musician left the specific reasons for her emotional statement ambiguous, but the supportive responses in the comments section were immediate and encouraging. Fellow artist Latto reminded Lizzo of her importance, recounting how Lizzo once inspired her to persevere.
“The ppl need u Lizzo. I remember U made me keep going when I wanted to quit before. Ur soul is SO pure f— these ppl that don’t know you! TEAM LIZZO 4L.”
Talk show host Loni Love advised her to step away from online negativity and find solace in personal relationships and her work.
“Girl don’t let them winβ¦ stay off the internet.. hug up yo manβ¦ keep working.”
These expressions came after a legal setback for Lizzo when her attempt to dismiss a sexual harassment lawsuit brought by three former background dancers was unsuccessful.
Last year, Lizzo opened up to her following about taking time for personal reflection and self-care.
Renowned for chart-toppers like “Juice,” “Truth Hurts,” and “Good as Hell,” Lizzo has been lauded for promoting body positivity, delivering empowering music, and her exuberant stage presence. However, she has recently grappled with falling out of favor with some followers after navigating the turbulent waters of public opinion following her rebuttal of legal allegations from former dancers. This has culminated in a decline in her Instagram following.
