*On Sunday, the 81st annual Golden Globe Awards took place in Beverly Hills at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Film, TV, and music stars were in attendance, including Oprah Winfrey, Fantasia Barrino, Abbott Elementary stars Sheryl Lee Ralph, Cedric The Entertainer, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Taylor Swift, and others.
EUR was on the red carpet and talked with Golden Globe nominees Coleman Domingo and Lenny Kravitz about the necessity for the film “Rustin” and Lenny’s song, “Road to Freedom,” that closes the film.
Kravitz shared that being at the awards was “exciting because it was an opportunity to share the story of Bayard Rustin.”
Domingo, who portrayed Bayard Rustin, shared the importance of the story, “it has given us some tools,” he explained. “Actually, this film is watching you, watching people wrestle with language. They wrestle with spirit and ideologies because they really want the same thing actually they want to make this world a better place. And they got up every morning to ensure they were doing and being a part of that. So I think hopefully we rouse that spirit in people with a film like “Rustin.” The work that my brother Lenny lent everyone has lent all their gifts to the legacy of Bayard and all these other civil rights, unsung heroes. So if it’s musically, if it is their body as an actor, a director, George C. Wolfe, its President Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, we all gave what we could because we knew it wasn’t about us. But it is about all of us,” explained the actor.
Elsewhere on the carpet, actor William Stafford Davis, who portrays Mr. Davis, the custodian on the hit ABC comedy “Abbott Elementary,” shared that “Rustin” was one of his favorite films of 2023. He also confided in EUR that this upcoming “Abbott Elementary” season is a must-see.
