*With hits like “Pony,” “In Those Jeans” and “So Anxious” Ginuwine easily comes to mind for many people when thinking of tunes to soundtrack an episode of hot sex.
But when it comes to his own lovemaking playlist, the singer is quick to say he doesn’t include his own music when handling business between the sheets.
“No, absolutely not,” Ginuwine laughingly told journalist Shirley Ju, via TMZ Hip Hop. For him, “old school” hits are the sounds he prefers for sex-filled episodes, citing Marvin Gaye and Jodeci among the artists he has on deck to hear.
As Ginuwine’s chat with Ju continued, the 53-year-old entertainer touched on his Timbaland-produced cover of Prince’s classic hit “When Doves Cry.” The tune, featured on Ginuwine’s debut album, Ginuwine…The Bachelor” peaked at number 16 on the Billboard Rhythmic chart. Even more memorable for Ginuwine was the approval of the cover by Prince himself.
“[It] definitely felt amazing for me because he was one of my biggest inspirations when I was coming up doing music—him and Michael Jackson,” the vocalist told Ju. For him to check it and say it was good, it made me feel good about doing it while I’m doing shows.”
Prince wasn’t the only music legend Ginuwine cited. When asked who the King of R&B is, the TGT member named Usher, while crowning Nas and Missy Elliott the King and Queen of Hip Hop.
Physically speaking, Ginuwine generated headlines in December by revealing his new workout regimen to get himself in better shape, according to Complex.
“I’m proud of myself after two weeks I’m just saying I had NO definition AT ALL,” he wrote on his Instagram account at the time. “I ain’t stopping gotta get ripped, back to the basics 500 sit ups 600 push ups a day water broccoli carrots potato, and a chicken breast sandwich every day I will get back trust me.”
