*Tyler Lepley, who stars in the hit Prime Video series “Harlem,” well understands the value of a particular group or culture having a voice in the entertainment industry. Tyler has come out to speak strongly about the importance of “Harlem” being a mouthpiece of the authentic Black culture.
This comes even as gentrification threatens to take center stage — a worrying trend, especially for the historic neighborhood of Harlem, NY.
Ever since Black slaves people were forcefully loaded into ships from Africa and transferred across the Atlantic to America, Black culture has struggled to raise its voice and be heard, to stand up and be counted here. This is due to the resilience and rich diversity of the Black culture. The charisma, style, and history of Harlem, New York, have always inspired people from all walks of life across the world.
Tyler plays Ian Walker in “Harlem.” Ian Walker is a creative, passionate, and knowledgeable chef determined and working hard to succeed in the big city. Interestingly, even in real life, Tyler is also passionate about championing the cause of the Black community.
“It’s something that’s so necessary,” Tyler said in a recent interview with TheYBF. “It’s necessary to feel as an individual. It’s necessary to show and display as an artist. It’s necessary to consume and watch as a viewer. And it’s something I take great pride in.”

He added, “As black people, having the pride that we have…specifically also being a voice for this culture in Harlem, which is just very specific, it’s rich in culture and it’s continuing to being gentrified daily. So, we have to fight for what we still got. We got to keep it here. It’s been an absolute treat to be able to be a voice for that.”
Tyler also discussed how “Harlem” has been received by the audiences, pointing out it has been enjoyed both by the Black and non-Black communities. He explained that compelling storytelling such as ‘Harlem” can “help us in the fight for what we believe in and what we take pride in.”
